  • I like to add comments both as a reader and as an editor. That way, you get a taste of how a reader will react, as well as meaningful reflection and feedback.

  • This kit is essentially a report card for your first fifty pages.

    I’m looking for specifics in your first fifty pages:

    • Does your story start in the right place?

    • Is your world well established?

    • Is there appropriate worldbuilding?

    • Is your protagonist strong? Do I know them?

    • Are the internal and external goals present?

    • Is the conflict present? Does it make sense?

    • Is narrative drive intact?

    • Is the plotting appropriate?

    • Do I feel immersed? Do I feel hooked? Do I want to read more?

  • In addition to your report card, I also give some actionable next steps to improve your first fifty pages. These can guide your revisions to make your opening even stronger!
